# Websim alternatives: where to make games after the free credits

Updated Nov 4, 2026. Roam is our app, and the Roam team wrote this comparison. Source: https://roam.gg/websim-alternative

Websim turns plain words into games and apps on the web. Its free daily credits ended in January 2026, so here are other places to start free, including phone apps.

## Quick answer

Good Websim alternatives for games are Rosebud AI and Replit, for people who want the code on a computer, Google Playground on the web, and Astrocade and Castle, free phone apps with a feed of games. Roam fits if you want no code to read: you make the game in an iPhone app.

| Paid options | Optional Spark and Reality plans and credit packs (prices on the App Store) | Starter and Pro plans and one-time credit purchases. Prices not published on its public pages |
| How you make a game | Describe it in a sentence or start from a photo, then change it by talking | Describe it in plain words; the AI writes the code and you keep asking for changes. Apps too, not only games |
| Play with friends | Yes. Play solo or with friends | Yes. Projects can be made multiplayer, and players stay connected when you publish an update |
| Game feed | Yes, a feed of games other people made | Yes. Hot and Top lists; people like, comment, tip and remix |
| Who owns the games | You keep ownership. Roam gets a license to run, improve and showcase it; you can opt out of AI improvement | You keep ownership. Websim gets a perpetual, irrevocable license that includes training its AI models |

Websim facts come from its home page, blog (January 12, July 16 and August 21, 2026 posts) and Terms of Service (last modified August 29, 2024). Roam does not publish its free limits.

## Which one to pick

**Pick Websim if:** You like to build on a computer and want to see the code. Websim makes apps as well as games, lets anyone remix what you post, and has real multiplayer. If you already have a ChatGPT account, even a free one, you can build on Websim with it and keep your Websim credits.

**Pick Roam if:** You want to make and play on your phone, with no code to read. A sentence becomes a game, and you play it with friends. Roam's terms say you keep ownership, with a license for Roam to run, improve and showcase your game. Roam has no web or PC version, so Websim, Rosebud or Replit fit better if you work on a laptop.

## What Websim does well

Websim calls itself a creative, browser-based playground. You describe a game, a tool or an odd experiment in plain words, and its AI writes the code. You test it, then post it.

The community is the strong part. Posted projects show up in Hot and Top lists, and people like, comment, tip credits and remix. Since August 2026 a project's agent can read its comments and reply, and remixers can offer their changes back to the original maker. Multiplayer is built in, and an update no longer kicks players out mid-game.

## Is Websim still free?

Partly. On January 12, 2026 Websim ended its free daily credits, its creator program and its video rewards. It said people could still get credits from free models, engagement rewards and tips, or by buying credits or a Starter or Pro plan. Its home page still says you can create for free.

In July 2026 Websim added another free path: connect your own ChatGPT account and build with it. Websim says a free ChatGPT account works, it charges nothing for this, and your Websim credits stay untouched. Your ChatGPT plan sets how many messages you get.

## No code to read, on your phone

Websim keeps you in a browser tab with code you can read. Roam keeps you on your iPhone with none. Type a line, or start from a photo of a friend, a pet or a meme, and you get a game to play right away. Say what to change, like "more enemies" or "add a boss", and play it solo or with friends. Roam makes games only, not apps.

## Other Websim alternatives

- **Rosebud AI** A web game maker for 2D and 3D, with code you can see. The free plan has 10,000 credits that refill each week in eligible regions. Paid plans run from $15 to $100 a month, and commercial rights start at 10x Dev ($30).
- **Astrocade** Web, iPhone and Android. Describe a game and its AI builds the art, sound and gameplay, then you share it and compete with friends. The App Store app is free and rated 13+. Its terms say you own your content, but some AI outputs count as Astrocade Content, which Astrocade owns.
- **Google Playground** Google's browser-based game maker, on a phone or laptop. It launched for the US only and for ages 18 and up. Playing is free, making uses a weekly token budget, and some genres support multiplayer.
- **Replit** A general app builder: its Agent turns plain words into apps, including mobile apps, and writes the code for you. Publishing is on every plan, with a .replit.app address. The Starter plan includes one published app that expires after 30 days. Core is $20 a month.
- **Castle** A free phone app on iPhone and Android where you build games by hand in an editor with art, physics, logic, music and sound tools. Its update notes mention parties and multiplayer. In-app purchases include bricks and a Dweller subscription.

## How to pick

Want the code and a computer? Websim, Rosebud or Replit. Want to type a prompt and play on a phone? Astrocade or Roam. Want to build every rule by hand on a phone? Castle. US adults can also try Google Playground.
