Red dust hangs over a voxel canyon on Mars, the title reads Ares Vallis, the valley where it started, and a horde of blocky mob people is already charging. Mars Has Mobs is one of the horde shooter games you can play in first person in the Roam app on iPhone. Aim at them to fire, grab crates and throw them into the crowd, and survive Sector 1 across 3 waves. There is no slow start. The action begins before the title fades.

Fight controls

Move with the joystick and drag to aim.
Aim at a mob to fire your pistol. It starts with 50 rounds.
Tap the throw button to hurl a crate or grenade into the horde.
Watch your hearts and back up when the crowd gets close.
Clear all 3 waves to finish the sector.

Pixel Gun 3D showed that blocky shooters work on a phone: chunky characters, bright hits and a lot of enemies. Mars Has Mobs uses that blocky FPS style and points it at hordes instead of other players. It is you against wave after wave of voxel mobs.

The crate throw is the twist. Picking up a box and flinging it into a crowd feels very different from just shooting, and it hits several mobs at once.

The setting helps it stand out from other blocky shooters too. A dusty red Mars canyon is not the usual city or castle map.

Horde shooter games tips

Keep moving backward while you shoot. Horde shooters punish standing still. Throw crates into the thickest part of the crowd and save your pistol for the ones that break through.

Watch the wave counter. A short pause between waves is your time to pick up crates and get in position for the next rush.
