Play free nowWeek 1, Processing Floor B. A lump of rotting material sits on a glowing pad, a WORK SAFE poster stares down, and your hammer is the only tool you get. QUOTA is a dystopian factory game played in the Roam app on iPhone: tap to swing, drag to turn the block, smash it down and send the remains on. Fill the quota bar, follow the memos and do not ask what the material used to be.
A shift on the floor
- Tap to swing the hammer at the block on the pad.
- Drag to turn the block and get at the side you need.
- Rotten or veined goods go to the incinerator. The rest heads to disposal.
- Keep the quota meter in the top left rising until the shift is done.
Grim, and proud of it
- A grimy factory room with warning stripes, gauges and propaganda posters.
- Heavy, gory hammer hits on sculpted cubes of rot and clay.
- Memos from above that set the rules for each shift.
- One station, one hammer, one number to hit.
A dystopian factory game with Papers, Please energy
Papers, Please made a hit out of a dull job under a cruel system: check, sort, meet the target. QUOTA has the same mood. You process goods, follow memos and sort by the rules you are given, while a meter decides if you did enough.
The work itself is different. Instead of reading documents, you swing a hammer and judge rot by eye. It is more physical, gorier and faster to grasp, with less story to follow.
Who it is for, plus two tips
Players who like moody, odd little sims more than action. There is no enemy here, just the quota and the next block on the pad.
Tips: turn the block before you swing so you can spot veins and rot, and read every memo that pops up. The rules for what burns are in them.
How it compares to other smashing games
Most smashing games online are about breaking as much as possible. QUOTA asks you to break the right things and send them to the right place, which turns every swing into a small decision.
It also has a mood those games lack: a factory under cruel management, posters on the wall and a quota that looms over every swing.
QUOTA FAQ
Is QUOTA free to play on iPhone?
Yes. QUOTA runs in the Roam app, and both cost nothing.
What do you actually do in QUOTA?
You work one station in a grim factory. Smash each block with a hammer, send what is rotten to the incinerator and fill your quota.
Is QUOTA scary?
Not jump-scare scary. It is dark and a bit gory, with cubes of rot and a bleak factory mood. Think dystopian factory game more than horror.
Is there a story?
A light one. Title cards like Week 1 and memos from management frame each shift, and they hint at what kind of place you work for.
