Make a quiz game about anything

What makes a quiz fun to play

• A clock. Ten seconds per question turns knowing into racing. Faster answers can score more.
• Close wrong answers. If three options are silly, there is no question. The best wrong answer almost sounds right.
• Streaks. A bonus for three in a row makes every answer matter more than the last.
• A rival. A score is fine. Beating your friend by one point is better.
• Short rounds. Ten questions, then a result. Long quizzes lose people halfway.

Topics that work

• Your friend group. "Who said it" from the group chat, whose birthday is first, who owns the cat. Only your friends can win.
• A class subject. Chemistry symbols, the dates in this week's history unit, French vocabulary.
• Flags and maps. Flag Dash in Roam mixes a runner with a flag quiz: run fast, and know your flags.
• This week online. Memes, trending sounds, the drama everyone saw. Fast to make, so it is still current.
• Red or green. Not right or wrong, just a call. Red Flag Green Flag swipes one card at a time.

Write the prompt in four parts

Say the topic, how many questions per round, the timer and how you win. For example: "Quiz about our friend group, 10 questions, 10 seconds each, streak bonus, my three friends play against me." KNOW IT! in Roam shows the game-show version of this format.

Check the questions before you send it to a class or a group. If one is wrong, say so: "question 4 is wrong, the capital of Australia is Canberra." Roam rebuilds it.

Questions people ask

How do I make a quiz game?

Choose a topic, a round length, a timer and a way to win. In Roam you write that in a sentence and play it.

Can I make a trivia game about my friends?

Yes. Tell Roam the facts and inside jokes, and your friends can play against each other.

Is it like Kahoot?

Kahoot is best known for live quizzes on a shared screen. A Roam quiz is a game you play on your phone, solo or with friends.
