Roam

Make a snake game, your way

Snake is simple: eat, grow, do not hit yourself. It was a fixture on Nokia phones in the late 1990s and came back in 2016 as the arena game Slither.io. In Roam you describe your snake game and play it on your iPhone, with no code.

Twists to ask for

Tune it by talking

Snake lives on speed. If the first build feels too fast, say "slower at the start, faster every 5 food." If the grid is cramped on a phone screen, say "bigger grid cells." If dying feels unfair, ask for "one second of warning before the wall closes."

Snake is a classic first project in coding classes because the rules are tiny. In Roam you skip the code and spend the time on the twist instead.

Questions people ask

How do you make a snake game?

Decide the field, how the snake grows and how you lose. In Roam you write that in a sentence and it comes back playable.

Can I make a Slither.io-like game?

Yes. Ask for an arena with many snakes, a boost and food from fallen snakes, with your friends as rivals.

Is Snake hard to code?

It is one of the easier games to code, which is why classes use it. In Roam you do not need to code it at all.
