Backbeat: Junktown gameplay on RoamPlay free now

It is Week 1, Monday, and the card on screen gives you a quota of 150 and one rule: tap GRAB on the beat. Backbeat: Junktown is a garbage truck game crossed with a rhythm game, played in the Roam app on iPhone. You drive through a lit 3D suburb, pull up to the bins and hit the claw button in time with the music to toss them in. You get one minute on the clock and coins for every clean grab.

Driving to the beat

  1. Drag to drive the truck through the streets.
  2. Pull up next to a bin.
  3. Tap the big GRAB claw button on the beat to toss it.
  4. Hit the 150-coin quota before the 1:00 timer runs out.

What makes it fresh

  • Rhythm timing in a driving game, a mix you rarely see
  • A detailed suburb with houses, trees and soft shadows
  • Stars and coins for grabs that land on the beat
  • Daily quotas, starting with Monday of week 1

A garbage truck game that grooves

Most trash truck games are slow simulators. This one is about timing. The truck is your instrument and every bin is a note you either hit or miss.

Driving keeps you busy between beats, so it never feels like a pure tap-along. You plan your route, line up the next bin and tap when the music says so.

Tips for your first shift

Get a feel for the beat during the countdown before GO. Once the shift starts there is no time to warm up.

Slow down as you reach a bin. Being in position early is easier than tapping late while you are still turning. The top-down camera shows the next street, so plan one bin ahead.

For rhythm fans and truck fans

Rhythm game fans who want something new to tap to, and anyone who loved garbage trucks as a kid. It is bright, a bit silly and easy to understand from the first card.

It also suits players who find pure rhythm games too strict. Here you drive as well, so there is more to do than hit notes, and the street gives every beat a target.

Backbeat: Junktown FAQ

Does Backbeat: Junktown cost money?

No. Get the Roam app on iPhone and you can play it at no cost.

Is there a garbage truck game for iPhone that is not a slow sim?

Backbeat: Junktown is fast: you drive a garbage truck through town and toss bins on the beat to hit a daily quota in one minute.

Is Backbeat: Junktown a rhythm game?

Yes, partly. Grabbing bins works best when you tap on the beat, so music timing is half the game and driving is the other half.

How long is a shift in Backbeat: Junktown?

The first shift gives you one minute to reach the 150 quota.
