Gold in hand, an empty half of a grass field in front of you, and an enemy army already lined up across it. Clash of Legions is a medieval battle simulator where the work happens before the fight: drag footmen, archers and catapults into place, then start the battle and watch your plan hold or fall apart. Battles load in the Roam app on iPhone, and a threat meter shows how strong the other side is.

How a battle works

Drag a unit card onto your half of the field.
Spend your gold with care: catapults cost more than footmen.
Check the threat meter to see the enemy's strength.
Start the battle and watch the armies clash.
Win to move on to the next battle.

TABS made place-and-watch battles popular: set up your army, press go, and see what happens. Clash of Legions uses that same loop with medieval units and a budget.

It is cleaner and more serious than TABS. There are no wobbly joke units, just three troop types and the question of where to put them. It is its own game made on Roam.

Tips for a medieval battle simulator on a budget

Footmen in front, archers behind is the classic opening for a reason. The front line buys time for the archers to shoot.

Catapults are expensive, so place them where the enemy cannot reach them early. When a battle is lost, look at where your line broke and fix that spot next time.

No fast fingers needed

It is aimed at players who like strategy without fast fingers. Every decision happens before the fight, so you can think as long as you want. It is single-player.

Battles are short, so it is easy to try a new setup right after a loss. Swapping one catapult for a few more footmen can change the whole result.
