Play free nowLevel 1-1 is called First Steps, and the walkway lowers into a flooded spillway lit in deep blue. You see it all in first person: metal catwalks, shafts of light through the water and a glowing ring at the end. Hold to walk, drag to look, tap jump across the gaps and grab the four pickups while a timer tracks your run. Of the first person parkour games you can play on a phone, Grate Escape is a free one in the Roam app on iPhone.
How to clear a level
- Hold the joystick to walk and drag on the screen to look around.
- Tap the jump button to cross gaps between catwalks.
- Collect the pickups on the way (4 on level 1-1).
- Reach the glowing ring as fast as you can; a timer and distance counter track your run.
Why the spillway works
- Moody underwater-blue light and light shafts
- Catwalk routes that make every jump count
- A timer and distance counter for speed runs
- Collectibles to hunt on each level
What first person parkour games feel like on a phone
First person parkour games like Mirror's Edge are about flow: look, jump, keep moving. On a phone that can be hard. Grate Escape keeps it simple with one stick, one jump button and a drag to look.
It is closer to a platformer than a free-running sim. The catwalks are set, the gaps are clear, and the challenge is timing and route.
Each level has a name and a number, starting with 1-1, First Steps, so progress is easy to follow.
Tips for a fast run
Look before you jump. Drag the camera to find the next catwalk, then go.
Turn your brightness up. The spillway is dark and blue, and seeing the edge of a catwalk is half the battle.
Like an obby, from the inside
If you have played obby courses, the idea will feel familiar: get from start to finish without falling. The difference is the view. In first person, every gap looks wider and every landing feels closer.
That makes even the warm-up level a small test of nerve.

What do you have to reach in Grate Escape?
Reach the glowing ring at the end of each spillway level, collecting pickups and beating the clock.

Level 1-1, First Steps, is the warm-up: catwalks, a few gaps and four pickups to find. It is a good place to get used to dragging the camera while you walk.
Is Grate Escape an obby?
It is close: a jump course you clear from start to finish. It belongs with first person parkour games, though, with a timer on top.
