Your jeep has a gramophone strapped to the roof, and the street ahead is laid out like a music staff. Notes float over the lanes: steer into them as the beat lands and the score climbs, miss one and the word MISS pops up. Then the road bends up the side of a building and over the rooftops, and you keep driving upside down. Play the Ceiling is a rhythm driving game for iPhone, played in the Roam app.

Driving to the beat

  1. Steer between the lanes with the stick.
  2. Drive into the notes as the beat hits.
  3. Tap HOP to jump.
  4. Avoid misses to keep your score climbing.

What makes the road strange

  • A street that curls up walls and over rooftops
  • Music-staff lanes with notes to catch
  • A pastel storybook town with a Ferris wheel on the skyline
  • A hop button for when the lane calls for a jump

If you like Audiosurf

Audiosurf turned songs into roads you ride. Play the Ceiling shares that basic idea: lanes, notes on the track and a score that rewards hitting the beat.

The twist is the street itself. It is a real town, with houses and lamps, and it does not stay flat. Driving up a wall while the music plays is a strange, fun feeling that a flat track never gives you.

A rhythm driving game for short sessions

Runs are quick to start and easy to read. You only steer and hop, so the challenge is timing, not learning buttons.

Tip: look a little ahead, not at the jeep. Notes come down the lane toward you, and the earlier you spot one, the smoother your lane change. When the road starts to curl, keep steering the same way and trust it.

Who gets the most out of it

Rhythm fans who want something lighter than a hard tap game. You steer one jeep across a few lanes, and the music does the rest.

It also works for players who simply like strange roads. Even if you miss a few notes, the moment the street turns up a wall makes the run worth it.

Play the Ceiling FAQ

Is Play the Ceiling free to try?

Yes. Download Roam from the App Store, which costs nothing, and start driving.

Is Play the Ceiling like Audiosurf?

In spirit, yes: you ride lanes and hit notes on the beat. The difference is a jeep in a storybook town and a road that climbs walls and flips over roofs.

Do I need to know music to play a rhythm driving game?

No. You only need to steer into notes when they reach you. The beat helps with timing, but there is nothing to read or memorize.

Why is it called Play the Ceiling?

Because the road leaves the ground. It curls up building walls and over rooftops, so at some point you are driving on what looks like the ceiling.
