Which one to pick

Pick Rosebud AI if

You want a tool made only for games, on a computer: an editor, art and sound tools, a multiplayer template and a play hub. Commercial rights start at $30 a month.

Pick ChatGPT if

You already use ChatGPT and want a quick prototype. The free plan writes the code. On Plus or Pro, Sites can build the game and host it at a link.

Pick Claude if

You want a small playable page on the free plan, or a real code project with Claude Code on Pro or a higher plan. Claude's terms require users to be 18 or older.

Pick Roam if

You want to make and play on your phone with no code. Describe the game or start from a photo, change it by talking, and play it with friends. Roam has no web or PC version.

Rosebud AI vs ChatGPT: a game tool vs a chat assistant

Rosebud is a game maker first. You type a prompt, press Create, test the game in Preview, then ask Rosie for one change at a time. Then you press Publish and copy a link. Its site also lists sprite sheet, skybox and 3D model generators.

ChatGPT is a general assistant. Ask it for a small game and it writes the code, which you save, run, fix and put online yourself. On Plus and Pro, ChatGPT Sites builds and hosts websites, apps and games. Sites is a public beta, and building a Site counts toward your Codex usage.

How to make a game with ChatGPT, step by step

Rosebud AI vs Claude

Claude makes games in two ways. Artifacts, on every plan including Free, are small pages and tools next to the chat, and Anthropic says some let people play games with Claude inside. Viewers need a Claude account, except for legacy artifacts published from a chat.

Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent, on Pro or a higher plan. It reads a project, edits files and runs commands. You get code files, so you still test, host and share the game.

The two can work together. Rosebud's docs describe a rosebud CLI that lets coding agents, Claude Code among them, make sprites, 3D models and sound with Rosebud credits.

Claude Code games: what it builds

What a free week gets you

Rosebud's free plan gives 10,000 credits a week in eligible regions. An edit with Rosie costs about 2,000 credits, so that is about five edits; a premium model costs about 20,000. Code download and a Windows build start on Pro at $50 a month.

Roam is free to download and play, and making games works without a subscription. Optional Spark and Reality plans and credit packs add more creation.

Who owns the game you make

Rosebud's terms (last revised August 2, 2025) say Rosebud owns content created from your prompts. Paid users may sell and license what they create; free-plan content is for personal use.

OpenAI's terms say you own the output. Anthropic's consumer terms assign you its rights, if any, in outputs.

Roam's terms say: "You retain ownership of all content you create." Roam gets a license to run, improve and showcase it, and you can opt out of AI improvement.

A third option: make the game on your phone

Rosebud's tutorial suggests a computer for its keyboard exercise, and ChatGPT and Claude hand you code or a page to host. With Roam you type one sentence, or start from a photo of your dog. It comes back playable. Then you talk to it: "more enemies", "make it two-player". Play solo or with friends. There is also a feed of games other people made.

Skip the code. Play your idea tonight

Describe the dragon, the town and who your friends play, or start from a photo, and play it on your iPhone tonight.

Try: "a dragon attacks our town at night, my friends are the knights and I am the dragon"
