Which one to pick
Pick Rosebud AI if
You want the closest thing to Gambo on a computer: a website where you chat with an AI to build a browser game. The free plan gives 10,000 credits a week, and code download starts on Pro at $50 a month.
Pick GDevelop if
You want to earn from ads like Gambo promised and you are fine learning an editor. GDevelop is open source, has a free plan, and its pricing page lists AdMob ads in Android games.
Pick Roam if
You liked typing an idea and getting a game back, and you have an iPhone. Describe it, play it, then change it by talking, solo or with friends. Roam has no web or PC version, so skip it if you want to build on a computer.
What happened to Gambo AI?
Gambo called itself a game vibe coding agent. You typed a prompt and it built a game, with AI-made characters, animations, tilesets, music and sound effects. A map editor let you shape levels, and its home page promised ads added with one prompt.
In spring 2026 the team posted a shutdown notice. Editing stopped on April 7, 2026. Subscriptions were canceled, and the notice said unused credits would be refunded to the original payment method. After May 1, 2026, accounts and data were deleted. Today gambo.ai shows a parked domain page.
If you exported your project code before May 1, you still have it. If not, write the idea down in one line and rebuild it somewhere else.
Free Gambo AI alternatives
- Rosebud AI A website where you describe a game and chat with its AI to change it. Free plan: 10,000 credits a week in eligible regions. Paid plans run from $15 to $100 a month, with commercial rights from the $30 plan.
- Astrocade Free to play on its website and in its phone apps. Its App Store page lists no in-app purchases, and its terms describe subscriptions, 7-day trials and credits without prices. You describe a game, AI builds the art, sound and gameplay, and you share it in a feed.
- GDevelop An open-source game editor for Windows, Mac, Linux, the web, iPhone and Android. The free plan has 40 AI credits a month and 3 cloud projects. Silver, Gold and Pro add more, and App Store publishing starts on Gold.
- Websim A website where you describe what you want and the AI writes it. It ended free daily credits in January 2026. You can still earn credits from rewards and tips, or buy them.
- Roam An iPhone app, free to download and play, and making games works without a subscription; optional Spark and Reality plans and credit packs add more creation. Describe a game in a sentence and play it solo or with friends, and browse a feed of games other people made.
Gambo vs Roam: what changes if you switch
Gambo was built for the web. You worked in a browser, people played in a browser, and on Pro you could export the code or use your own domain. It also put ads front and center, as a way to earn from the first player.
Roam is built for your phone. You do not write code. Type an idea or add a photo of your cat or a friend, and it comes back playable. Then say "more enemies" or "make it two-player". Roam does not publish ad or revenue tools, so if earning is the goal, look at GDevelop.
Bring a Gambo idea to Roam
- Copy the prompt you used on Gambo, or write the game down in one line.
- Paste it into Roam on your iPhone and play what comes back.
Your Gambo idea, back as a game on your phone
Type the game you made on Gambo in one line, and play it again on your iPhone.
Try: "top-down tank battle in a junkyard, waves of enemy tanks, power-ups in crates and a giant boss tank every fifth wave"
