Sortie 1 is called First Contact, and the briefing says drakes are riding the squall line. Most fighter jet games put you against other planes, and Jet vs Leviathan points your cannon at dragons instead. You fly through a stormy voxel canyon in the Roam app on iPhone, follow the arrow, hold the cannon and shoot down 7 dragons. Bombs, a boost and wingmen are on the buttons.

Flight controls

Steer the jet with the joystick.
Hold the cannon to fire, and drop bombs when the cannon is not enough.
Tap boost to close the distance, and use the special burst when a flock bunches up.
Call in wingmen for help.
Follow the arrow to the dragons and shoot down all 7.

If you like Ace Combat

Ace Combat is arcade flying at its best: fast jets, lots of targets and missions you can finish in minutes. Jet vs Leviathan has the same arcade spirit, but the enemy is a flock of dragons.

There is no realism to learn. You steer with one stick and fire with your right thumb. The five buttons give you plenty of firepower without a complex flight model.

Fighter jet games tip: use the arrow

Dragons often fly off screen. The arrow on the HUD points to them, so turn toward it before you fire.

Save the burst for when several dragons are close together. A single dragon is easier with the cannon. Use boost to catch a flock that is getting away, then let go and line up the shot.

Pure action, fantasy enemies

Players who want pure action. The mission card sets the target and the rest is flying and shooting. Each sortie is short, so a mission fits into a coffee break.

It also suits fantasy fans who never cared about real planes. A jet against dragons is a silly, great pairing, and the storm canyon makes it look like a movie poster.
