An iron giant with glowing eyes stands over a voxel meadow at dusk, and you sit on a horse at its feet with a sword. Gallop in, swing, peel away before it answers, then come back for more until its health bar is empty. If you have been searching for mobile games like Shadow of the Colossus, Ride Down Giants is a short, blocky take on the idea, played in the Roam app on iPhone. Everything here is huge except you.

Riding and fighting

  1. Steer your horse with the joystick on the left.
  2. Ride in close to a giant's legs.
  3. Press the sword button to strike while you are in range.
  4. Pull away before it swings, then circle back.
  5. Drain the giant's health bar to bring it down.

What the hunt looks like

  • Towering iron giants, like the Iron Warden, each with its own health bar
  • Sword combat from the saddle
  • A meadow built from blocks under a dark dusk sky
  • A size gap that makes every giant feel like a true boss

Mobile games like Shadow of the Colossus: how this one compares

Shadow of the Colossus is a long, quiet console game where you climb each colossus to find its weak point. Ride Down Giants keeps the core image, a lone rider against a giant, and drops the climbing. You fight from the saddle with a sword and chip the giant down from below.

That makes it far shorter and more direct. It is not a replacement for the original, but it hits the same feeling of facing something enormous, in a size that fits a phone break.

Tips for your first giant

Never stop moving. A horse at a gallop is your best defense, and a rider who parks next to a giant's foot is asking to get flattened.

Strike, pass, turn. Treat each attack like a jousting run rather than a slugfest, and watch the giant's arms so you know when to peel off.

Ride Down Giants FAQ

Is Ride Down Giants like Shadow of the Colossus?

In spirit, yes. It belongs with mobile games like Shadow of the Colossus because you ride a horse and fight giants far bigger than you. It is blocky and much shorter, and you fight from the saddle instead of climbing.

What are the giants in Ride Down Giants?

Huge iron figures that stomp across the meadow. The first one you meet, the Iron Warden, has a health bar you cut down with sword hits from horseback.

Is Ride Down Giants hard?

It takes a few tries. The giants are huge and their reach is long, so the trick is to keep the horse moving, pick your moment and never stop in front of a giant for long.

What does it cost to play Ride Down Giants?

Nothing. It runs inside Roam, a free iPhone app, so you can ride out as often as you like.
