A skeleton called the Draugr walks out across a round stone arena in a red rock canyon, and its health bar reads 57. Split Second is a sword duel game in the Roam app on iPhone where every fight is one on one: watch for the swing, dodge or block it, then cut back while it recovers. Win and your streak counter ticks up. There are no waves and no crowds, just you, one skeleton and a split second to react.

How a duel plays out

  1. Move your armored fighter around the arena with the joystick.
  2. Tap the strike button to swing when the skeleton is open.
  3. Dodge or block when it winds up an attack.
  4. Bring its health bar to zero to win the duel.
  5. Keep winning to grow your streak, and watch your own health bar at the top left.

What sets the duels apart

  • Strict one-on-one fights against skeleton warriors like the Draugr
  • Strike, dodge and block, with timing deciding every exchange
  • A streak counter, coins and trophies that track how you are doing
  • A round stone arena ringed by red canyon walls and cactus

What makes a good sword duel game

A good duel lives on reading your opponent. Split Second strips everything else away: one arena, one enemy, one health bar each. The skeleton shows its swings before they land, and the fight is about seeing that tell and picking the right answer.

That is why it suits a phone. A duel is short, the rules are clear in seconds, and a loss feels like your own mistake, which is exactly what makes you start the next one.

Tips against the skeletons

Do not mash strike. Swing right after you dodge or block, while the skeleton is still recovering, and back off when its arm goes up again.

Use the whole arena. The stone ring is wide, so stepping out of reach is a fair defense when your health is low and you need a second to reset.

Split Second FAQ

Is Split Second free?

Yes. It is free inside Roam, a free app for iPhone. Install Roam and your first duel is a few taps away.

Who do you fight in Split Second?

Skeleton warriors, one at a time. The first one in the arena is the Draugr, a lanky skeleton with a full health bar and a mean swing.

Is Split Second a duel or a hack and slash?

A sword duel game. You never face a crowd. Each fight is a 1v1 where timing your block, dodge and strike matters more than raw speed.

What happens when you win a duel in Split Second?

Your streak counter goes up by one and you face the next skeleton. The longer the streak gets, the more every block and dodge in the next duel matters. There is no other player to wait for: every opponent is a computer-controlled skeleton.
