Fen, the Leafsworn, starts at the foot of a forest village with a fairy at his shoulder and one goal on screen: up the stairs to the Elder, 18 meters away. Thornvale is built for players who search for Zelda like games and want one in the Roam app on iPhone. You get a sword, a lock-on target, a dodge and a fairy ability. Lanterns, god rays and odd forest creatures fill the path.

Moves and goal

  1. Drag on the left to move Fen.
  2. Tap the sword to attack and the target button to lock on.
  3. Use the small round button to dodge, and the fairy button for her ability.
  4. Follow the goal line up the stairs to reach the Elder.

Why it feels like a classic

  • A lush forest village lit by lanterns and god rays
  • Hearts, gems and coins like an old-school adventure
  • Lock-on sword fights
  • A fairy companion at your side

If you like The Legend of Zelda

The look will feel familiar right away: a hero in a green tunic, a glowing fairy, hearts in the corner and a village to climb through. The fights use lock-on and dodge, the way 3D Zelda games taught everyone to fight.

Thornvale is much smaller. It is a short adventure on a phone, not a huge open world, and the first goal is one staircase. It is a taste of the genre you can play in a few minutes.

Zelda like games on iPhone: what to expect

Thornvale takes a while to load and opens with a camera flyover and the hero's name. Give it a few seconds. Once the goal line appears, the path is short and clear.

Tip: lock on before you swing. The target button keeps the camera on one enemy, which makes dodging much easier on a small screen.

A short adventure, not a huge quest

Players who loved the first hour of a Zelda game, the village, the sword and the fairy, and want that feeling in a short form on the phone.

If you want a long quest with dungeons and items, this is a taste rather than the full meal. If you want a pretty forest walk with a few sword fights, it fits.

Thornvale FAQ

Does Thornvale cost money?

No. Get the Roam app on iPhone and you can play it at no cost.

Is Thornvale like The Legend of Zelda?

It is clearly inspired by it: elf hero, fairy, hearts and lock-on sword fights. It is a short, separate adventure, not a Nintendo game.

What is the first goal in Thornvale?

Climb the stairs to the Elder. The goal line shows the distance, 18 meters at the start.
