Punch the Bullet gameplay on RoamPlay free now

The whole world is inked: black and white walls, splats of paint and halftone dots, with giant beetles crawling across all of it. A revolver sits in your hand, a fist button sits next to it, and the first beetle is already at your feet. Shoot the far ones, punch the close ones, and clear the swarm before it clears you. Punch the Bullet is a comic book fps game you play in the Roam app on iPhone.

Gun hand, fist hand

  1. Move with the stick on the left.
  2. Aim at a beetle and tap Shoot to fire the revolver.
  3. Tap the fist to punch beetles that get too close.
  4. Use the extra buttons on the right for quick moves when you are surrounded.
  5. Clear each stage of the swarm to move on.

Why it looks like nothing else

  • Black and white comic art with halftone dots and ink splats
  • A revolver for range and a fist for close calls
  • Swarms of giant beetles in every stage
  • A color wheel and score counter that pop against the gray

Inside a comic book fps game

Comic style shooters often lean on bold color. This one goes the other way: almost everything is black, white and gray, and the only color comes from the HUD. It makes the beetles easy to read and the screen look like a printed page.

The punch matters more than you would think. Beetles close in fast, and a fist is quicker than lining up a shot at your own feet.

If you like giant bug shooters

Earth Defense Force made shooting giant bugs a genre of its own. Punch the Bullet keeps the bugs and the swarm, but trades the huge maps for small stages and adds a melee button.

Tip for your first stage: back up while you shoot. Beetles come at you in a line, and a step back buys time for one more bullet before you need the punch.

Punch the Bullet FAQ

Do I need to pay for Punch the Bullet?

No. It is free to play in Roam, which you can download at no cost on iPhone.

Is Punch the Bullet in color?

Mostly no. The world is drawn in black, white and gray like an old comic, with a few bright touches in the HUD and the score.

What are you fighting?

Giant black beetles. They come in swarms, crawl over the scenery and rush you, so you mix revolver shots with punches.

What other shooters use a comic style?

XIII and Borderlands are well known for comic-style art. Punch the Bullet is smaller and goes fully black and white, and it plays as a comic book fps game about bugs.
