What the Upit AI game maker is

Upit comes from FRVR, a games company. Its App Store listing says it was founded by Chris Benjaminsen, the person behind FRVR. Upit's own FAQ says it lets anyone make web-based games without technical skills, and that for now you can make 2D casual games.

The helper inside is called AVA. Upit says it writes code, makes graphics and sound, and offers improvements. The iPhone app also lists FaceKit, for games you control with your face, voice or movement. The app came out on February 10, 2025, and its latest App Store update (version 1.0.12) is from May 29, 2025.

How to make a game in Upit

These steps come from Upit's Create page and App Store listing. Upit does not publish a full tutorial.

  • Log in. Go to upit.com and log in. The Create link asks you to sign in first.
  • Apply as a creator. The Create page asks you to apply to the Beta Creator program. Upit reviews each application by hand, usually in 1 to 7 days. It does not say if the iPhone app needs this step.
  • Pick a starting point. The app lets you choose a theme such as a platformer, a puzzle or an obstacle course, or remix someone else's game to learn from it.
  • Build and test. Ask AVA for code, art and sound, then play-test and keep changing it. Upit calls these steps Imagine, Enhance and Iterate.
  • Publish and share. Publish the game, share it on social media and build a following. Themed contests add a goal.

Is Upit free?

The iPhone app is free, and on Nov 4, 2026 the US App Store listed no in-app purchases. Upit's website and terms do not publish prices, plans or credit limits. Its listing names future "creator economy" options, with no details yet.

Roam is free to download and play, and making games works without a subscription. Optional Spark and Reality plans and credit packs add more creation.

Who owns the game, and where you play it

Both let you make a game without code and share it. Upit works like a small engine with an AI partner: you pick a theme, then shape a 2D game step by step. Roam starts from one sentence or a photo of your friend, your dog or a meme, and the game comes back playable. You change it by saying what you want ("more enemies", "make it two-player").

Ownership differs too. Upit's terms say FRVR owns games generated with its AI. Roam's terms say you retain ownership of all content you create, with a license for Roam to run, improve and showcase it.
