How to make an FPS game

An FPS is a camera, a gun and a map. The camera has to feel steady, the gun has to feel strong, and the map has to make fights happen. Weapon feel comes from recoil, muzzle flash, sound and hit markers working together.

The build list

Make it in Roblox Studio

Roblox Studio is free but runs only on Windows and macOS, and game logic is scripted in Luau. Start from the FPS System template, which includes the blaster system from Laser Tag plus targets to practice on. Build a small map with parts, tune the blaster settings, then test with two players using a local server from the Test tab. Publishing is free.

Make it in an engine

Unity's FPS Microgame is a basic first-person shooter you can open from Unity Hub and change. In Godot, a CharacterBody3D handles the player and a RayCast3D gives you hitscan shots. Grab a free weapon and sound pack so testing feels real from day one.

A quick 1v1 on iPhone

Want to play a duel tonight? Describe it to Roam on your iPhone: the map, the weapons, the rules. It comes back playable, friends can join, and you fix the feel by talking, like "less recoil" or "smaller map".

Play it on Roam

Set up a 1v1 with Roam

Describe the arena and the guns. Roam makes it playable on iPhone and your friend can join.

Try: "1v1 in an abandoned warehouse, one sniper and one shotgun, first to 5 wins, my friend is the other player"
